This Waiver is offered on a first come first served basis.

The NOW Waiver is only appropriate for those individuals whose safety and health can be assured via the CPOC and for whom it represents the least restrictive treatment alternative.  The MR/DD Waiver is intended to provide specific activity-focused services rather than continuous custodial care.  The individual should have adequate skills or family/community support to function safely without continuous 24-hour care.

 Who is Eligible?

  •  Individuals who require the level of care of an institution for people with developmental disabilities but choose to live in the community
  • Individuals who are at least three years of age with the onset of the disability prior to age of 22

Requirements

    • Individual’s disability must meet Louisiana’s definition for mental retardation or development disability
    • Individual must have ability and support to live in the community without 24-hour paid support
    • Individual must meet Medicaid financial and medical requirements
    • Must meet ICF/MR level of care for medical and/or psychological criteria.  Procedure and requirements are the same as ICF/MR determination
    • Income limit is $1,656 (up to 3 times SSI amount)
    • Countable resources cannot be worth more than $2000 for an individual or $3000 for a couple when one spouse needs ICF/MR

Persons interested in being added to the Request for Services Registry for this waiver should contact the BCSS toll-free number at 1-800-660-0488.  This application process does not begin until a slot is available.
