Peer Counceling and Support RIL offers services allowing people with disabilities to work with other people with disabilities, who live independently in the community. The objective is to explore options and to solve problems that people with disabilities experience, for example, adjusting to a newly acquired disability, experiencing changes in living arrangements, and /or learning to use community services more effectively. Peer support services are provided through peer support groups, which
consist of individuals with a disability.
The peers in the group setting spend time discussing
personal issues or concerns and being informed of social
events.
Peer meetings are designed to inform consumers of resources that may be of interest. Peer meetings also allow RIL to assess the needs of people with disabilities. Any consumer may access the service by getting on RIL’s mailing list through I&R.
